Hip, Knee and Chiropractic

Why are the hip and knee so important?

The hip and knee are the largest and most important "weight-bearing" joints in your body. Their fundamental job is to support the weight of the trunk, stabilize posture and let you walk, run and climb stairs.

Precisely because they constantly bear the force of gravity and ground impact, they are among the joints most prone to wear, inflammation and mechanical stress.

Often, a problem that appears in the knee has its real cause in the hip or the spine, and vice versa. The body moves as a kinetic chain: if one link locks up, the others have to compensate, ending up inflamed.

Why do I have hip or knee pain?

Pain in the lower limbs can come from structural problems, trauma or, much more frequently, chronic postural imbalances. Among the most common conditions we treat are:

  • Coxarthrosis and gonarthrosis (osteoarthritis of the hip and knee): Progressive wear of cartilage causing stiffness, especially in the morning, and pain during movement.

  • Trochanteric bursitis (hip bursitis): A painful inflammation of the bursa that protects the hip tendons, often caused by faulty walking mechanics.

  • Patellar tendinitis or "pes anserine" tendinitis: Inflammation of the knee tendons due to overload or pelvic misalignment.

  • Iliotibial band syndrome: A very common condition among runners and cyclists.

At Studio Chiropratico Belig in Florence, before focusing only on the spot that hurts, we try to understand why that knee or hip is being overloaded, seeking out the primary cause of the problem.

What is the cause of my problem?

Very frequently, hip or knee pain is not an isolated problem, but the consequence of pelvic misalignment or limited mobility of the lumbar spine and foot.

If your pelvis is slightly rotated or tilted (due to prolonged poor posture in the office or old injuries), body weight will no longer be distributed 50% between the two legs.

One of the two sides will be forced to work harder, altering the mechanical axis between hip, knee and ankle. This creates joint restrictions, muscle imbalances and, eventually, inflammation of the tissues.

What can you do for me?

Our personalized chiropractic treatment aims to:

  • Restore correct joint alignment of the pelvis and lumbar spine to distribute weight symmetrically.

  • Improve specific mobility of the hip and knee through gentle, targeted manipulations and mobilizations.

  • Release muscle tension and activate stabilizing muscles (such as the glutes and quadriceps) to protect the joint over time.

Thanks to this conservative approach, we help many patients reduce pain, slow down the degenerative processes of arthritis and rediscover the pleasure of walking freely, avoiding or delaying invasive procedures as long as possible
